Beijing converts Hong Kong hotel into new national security office

first_imgWest Florida Soccer Teams Hope to Repeat Sucsess Aug. 24, 2007PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men’s and women’s soccer teams kickoff their 2007 season this weekend with back-to-back home openers tonight followed by a pair of games on Sunday, all taking place at the UWF Soccer Complex. Both the men and women are coming off successful seasons, concluding with trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournaments, and are looking for a return to glory this year.The women’s team starts the season against the defending national champions Metro State, who won the title during the Fall Festival held in Pensacola last year. The Argonauts lost their season opener last year against the Roadrunners, which was played in the mile High air of Denver, Colorado at the home of Metro State. The 2-1 defeat was one of only three losses that West Florida suffered last season.The men’s team returns to action for the first time since their historic season last year. West Florida also participated in the Fall Festival last season, reaching the NCAA Division II National Semifinals for the first time in school history. They will also open their season against Metro State, who defeated the Argonauts last season 3-1.On Sunday, the men’s and women’s team, both chosen as Gulf South Conference Pre-Season favorites, will match up against Georgia Southwestern State University. Last season the men’s team defeated the Hurricanes 10-0. It will be the first meeting for the women’s team against the Hurricanes.For the women, Marcela Franco (Jr. / Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the only Argonaut named to the GSC All-Preseason Team; however, she will see limited playing time this season due to a knee injury. Setting the foundation for the Argonauts this season will be Sheka Codner (Jr. / Dover, Del.) in the midfield and Brandi Adams (Sr. /Gulf Breeze, Fla ) on front line. Goalkeeper Courtney Jones (So. / Panama City, Fla. ) is likely to play every minute of every game in front of the net for West Florida this season. Returning players Lura Carter (Jr. / Tallahassee, Fla. ), Jodi Galucci (So. / Stuart, Fla.) and Kaley Morris (So. / Gulf Breeze, Fla.) will all see significant playing time.Top new comers to the Argonauts are Marie Hasting (Sr. / Gainesville, Fla.), Dernelle Mascall (So. / Basse terre, Moruga, Trinidad) and Anastasia Prescott (So. / Morvant, Port-of-Spain, Trinid). Hasting transfers from LSU, while Mascall and Prescott come from the Univeristy of Mobile.One the men’s side, returning starters Keith Savage (Sr. / Gulf Breeze, Fla.), Jimmy McHenry (Sr. / Tallahassee, Fla), Okang Nkosi (Sr. / Belmont, Trinidad), Nolan Intermoia (Jr. / Pensacola, Fla.) and Juan Garcia (Jr. / Chia, Colombia) were all selected the GSC All-Preseason Team. McHenry will once again lead the Argonauts strike as a starting forward. Savage along side Nick Mroczkowski (Sr. / Deltona, Fla.) and Patrick McLean (Sr. / Conyers, Ga.) will the set the pace in the midfield, while Nkosi and Intermoia anchor the solid Argonauts defense. Garcia will get the nod in goal.Friday’s games are at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while Sunday’s games will be played at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the women’s playing first on both days. Igali Makes Case for Nigeria to Host African Wrestling Â

first_imgPresident of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, has described the visit of the President of United World Wrestling – Africa, Fouad Meskout, as a major turning point for wrestling in Nigeria. Nigeria is bidding to host the 2018 Africa Wrestling Championship and when Meskout made a three-day working visit to inspect facilities for the tournament, Igali said it provided a huge chance in showcasing the development of the sport in the country. Igali told the African wrestling boss that Nigeria had produced passionate and world-class wrestlers who are eager to promote the sport by competing with the best at home. ”Since 1976 till date, Nigeria has not hosted the African Championship. It is about time for Nigeria; we have the capacity, material wealth and full support of the Rivers State Government. We are confident we will not lack anything.” Igali lavished praises on the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike for displaying amazing support in the bid process and believes hosting the tournament in Port Harcourt provides useful opportunity to showcase the sport to prospective sponsors. ”Governor Nyesom Wike has been awesome.
