The National Retail Federation reported that in 2018, families with school-aged children spent close to $700 each on school supplies, so TCC is working to alleviate the rising costs through this annual program. One Tuscaloosa resident, Lakesha Jackson, believes it’s always great for organizations to help residents in need.“I think it’s great because some people are struggling and need help and for other people out there to help, that’s good too,” she said. The backpacks were filled with various school supplies, including pencils, paper and a pencil box to ensure that students start off the school year on the right foot. In 2018, the company donated more than 180,000 and TCC employee Jessie Bates is hoping that in future years, the Tuscaloosa location will be able to make an even bigger impact on the community from this backpack giveaway.“It’s something that can be small for us but big for a child,” she said. “So we are hoping that it will grow and will be a big event that we can put on with more stuff and just make a bigger difference.”last_img
