EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO TAKE ACTION ON GAOTH DOBHAIR SEWERAGE SCHEME DELAY

first_imgSinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy has today commented on a response received from the European Commission to a submission made by him in relation to decision to delay the construction of the Gweedore Sewerage Scheme.Carthy, who is working with local TD Pearse Doherty on this issue, said it is a scandal that this issue has to be resolved by the European Commission when it is clearly the responsibility of the Irish Government.“I welcome the thorough response of the Environment Commissioner to my submission on this scheme and the interest shown in this case.“I also welcome the fact that the European Commission intends to raise this matter with the Irish authorities with a view to including the failure to progress the scheme in an existing infringement case against Ireland in respect of the Urban Wastewater Directive.” He added it is unfortunate that the people of Gweedore have now had to seek redress from the European Institutions for the complete failure of successive Irish Governments to deliver this long promised and necessary scheme.“Sinn Féin will continue to raise this matter with the relevant authorities in Ireland and Europe in order to ensure that all avenues for the progression of this scheme are exhausted and we will continue to fight for the delivery of this scheme for the people of Gweedore.”EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO TAKE ACTION ON GAOTH DOBHAIR SEWERAGE SCHEME DELAY was last modified: June 17th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:GAOTH DOBHAIR SEWERAGE SCHEMEMatt CarthyPearse DohertySinn Feinlast_img read more
